Meals-on-Wheels of Palestine , Inc. is a community-based not-for-profit organization that serves needy elderly and disabled persons throughout Anderson, Cherokee and Rusk Counties. Founded in 1976, the organization  began serving  home-delivered meals in Palestine, in January of 1977.  Meals on Wheels was contracted to serve Cherokee County in 1989 and Rusk County in 1990 .  The program currently serves an average of 600 meals per day, five days per week.

Meals-on-Wheels is making the difference in the lives of many by:

• helping to feed the hungry,

• helping to break the isolation of many lonely days,

• helping people to live independently in their own homes,

• helping people to maintain their dignity,

• helping families to better care for their loved ones,

• helping to prevent premature nursing home placements,

• helping our Anderson, Cherokee, and Rusk County communities to foster the positive community spirit of people helping people, and

• helping to improve the overall quality of life.

Meals-on-Wheels provides Home-Delivered Meals to frail, isolated, elderly and disabled persons. Also provided is Information & Assistance support to families with needy, elderly and disabled family members. Meals-on-Wheels also works closely with home health agencies, doctors' offices, hospital discharge planners, and other community service groups to coordinate services to those in need.   Meals on Wheels also operates and serves on-site meals in Senior Centers in Palestine, Frankston, Jacksonville, and Henderson

The philosophy of Meals-on-Wheels is simple. Emphasis is placed on helping to keep the frail elderly person in their own home environment for as long as is possible, thereby reducing the cost of costly institutional care.
